Cfadisk Inf -

Replace the existing device string with the Hardware ID you copied from Device Manager.

Browse to your modified cfadisk.inf file, select it, and click OK.

The term cfadisk.inf refers to a text-based installation information file that instructs Windows on how to load the cfadisk.sys driver. This driver package was originally developed for Hitachi Microdrives but was later adapted as a versatile filter driver for USB flash drives and SD cards.

[cfadisk_install.Services] AddService=cfadisk,2,cfadisk_ServiceInstallSection Cfadisk Inf

is the configuration file for the Hitachi Microdrive Filter Driver ( cfadisk.sys ), a legendary software modification used by IT professionals and power users to force Windows to recognize removable USB flash drives and SD cards as permanent, local hard drives.

Cfadisk Inf stands for "Configuration Floppy Disk Information." It pertains to a file or a set of data that contains configuration information for disk drives, particularly in contexts where floppy disks were used as a primary medium for data storage and transfer. The term is associated with older systems and technologies but still holds relevance in understanding how modern systems interact with storage devices.

A powerful, albeit technical, solution to bypass these limitations is the use of a filter driver, famously known as the cfadisk.inf or Hitachi Microdrive Filter. Replace the existing device string with the Hardware

Modern 64-bit Windows (Windows 10/11) requires drivers to be signed. You may need to disable driver signature enforcement to install this driver.

[cfadisk_device.NTx86] %Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,USBSTOR\GenDisk

Upon reboot, press or F7 to select "Disable driver signature enforcement." Step 4: Install the Modified Driver This driver package was originally developed for Hitachi

The cfadisk.inf file is not a magical hack. It is a derived from Microsoft’s own driver model for ATA/ATAPI devices.

Windows historically does not allow multiple partitions on USB drives marked as "removable." If you need to create two or more partitions on one USB stick, forcing it to "fixed" via cfadisk enables this.

For most users, cfadisk.inf remains the gold standard for flexibility and compatibility.
